If you want a quick simple read that you can finish in a day or two, this is the series for you.

I've enjoyed the puzzle based Parnell Hall books and thought I'd try a different series. This book was not as good as that series. It seemed to be an attempt to write a noir detective story but failed on all counts. The dialog was extremely simplistic and repetitive. Stanley's arguments/discussions with his wife were an exercise in circular logic. I wanted to throw the book against the wall after the second discussion. The dialog with all of the characters was also simplistic and repetitive. The story wandered and veered without a purpose.

About 1/3 of the way into the book, I no longer cared "who done it", I just wanted to be done with this book.

A return to form, after a mid-series lull. Much more of a courtroom drama than before, and although not as good as the best of his Steve Winslow series, I'm rounding up a ★★★☆ out of relief that it wasn't another [b:Actor|1686069|Actor (Stanley Hastings Mystery, #8)|Parnell Hall|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1421109362s/1686069.jpg|1682716] or [b:Movie|1686068|Movie (Stanley Hastings Mystery, #10)|Parnell Hall|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1421183235s/1686068.jpg|1682715].
