I finished it. It was long and sometimes I felt like just giving up. But I loved it. I know it's already a glorified book, but I'm going to praise it some more. I learned so much from it. Margaret Mitchell has a way of making the characters so real and deep. History became more personal for me. It was excellent. It was hard. Well done, Margaret Mitchell.

A masterpiece.
To talk about this book is like talking about The Sex Pistols discography: they arrived, made a mark in culture forever, and went away.
The intricacy of each character and their developpment arcs. The nuanced historical contextualization.
A lot can be — and I bet it has been — said about the accuracy on slavery or its apparent apology of it. But I'm not and expert and I have no valid opinion on that subject.
No lasting masterpiece come without some level of controversy.
The experience of a lifetime to read this novel.

I did like the ending, the way it was left sort of at the climax. Like the story could continue on and on.
It went on a little long for me; Part 1- Part 4 were paced well (slow, but paced well), Part 5 was a little too slow for me, but I endured through it. It was a bit too repetitive towards the last few chapters, IMO. Like Margaret Mitchell was getting paid by the word!
Plus, this was really written for a different time! Scarlett is married for years and yet decides after 5 years that she does indeed love Rhett? But Rhett is not faithful to Scarlett anyways (prostitute Belle). He loves one woman more, but yet sleeps with both?
