I read this book based on a recommendation by a dear friend. I had good expectations for that reason, based on the reviews, and because the author is an MD PhD. I was, nevertheless, disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, the book gets many things right when talking about emotions and how to regulate them & help others regulate them. However, almost every time the topic moved to physical aspects of the human body, or of life for that matter, it turns into murky arguments. Sadly, the lack of critical reasoning when describing “science” is concerning. Extreme certainty is conveyed based on “stories” and rhetoric. It surprised me how an MD or PhD person (let alone both) would come up with that.
Anyhow, again, the portions addressing emotional regulation are good and could be helpful to many people. Everything else, not so much.
