i read an updated version of this book published in dec 2023. it offered a really comprehensive history of Palestinian resistance and foreign relations in the Middle East. i appreciated the informative tone throughout and the anti zionist stance. i would have been interested in a deeper analysis of Israel’s understanding and conceptualization of the role of US support.
I haven’t read all of the books on Palestine, but this seems to be one of the best primers out there for anyone who wants to learn more about the struggle for Palestine. The updated edition has more info about the ongoing genocide & how it relates to the rest of the struggle.

This book is fantastic. It’s the third book I’ve read about Palestine this year, and it was by far the easiest to understand and read. I am not an academic, and some of the other books out there on Palestine and its history are a slog to get through. This felt far more approachable for me, and I so appreciate the short chapters. They keep me interested and engaged.
The information is well laid out and presented. Some of the different perspectives in the appendices are interesting.
Honestly, if you want to know more about the history of Palestine and Israeli/US Zionist imperialism, this is an excellent place to start. It’s firmly anti-Zionist.

Let this book radicalized you.
A really accessible walk through of the deeply destructive and unjust intersections of colonialism, zionism, and imperialism, centered on the touchdown point of the created state of Israel in Palestine, starting about a century before this book was written.
It's sad and insidious how the narrative that we get indoctrinated with in the US about Israel is just. so. fabricated. I am sad for Palestinians who resist and fight and die and refuse to give up hope in the face of oppression and injustice, I am sad for Jewish people all over who have had their identity conflated with the deeply problematic Israel and their historic opposition used as a political tool, I am sad for all the casualties of US, British and all Western imperialism, including all Native peoples of the Americas, and I'm sad for those of us who aren't of those communities but miss out on a better, richer, thriving, just world because of the colonialist, capitalist, imperialist violence.
