It also gives a concise analysis of the u.s. involvement in the region, to show that israel is a racist settler colonial project that furthers western imperialism in the Middle East. Looking forward to reading the updated 2nd edition.

This book offers excellent insight into the history of the Zionist movement and the colonial nature of the Zionist project. From the beginning, Israel was dependent on imperialist funding and support, which allowed it to carry out the ethnic cleansing and displacement of the Palestinian people. There are many many many direct quotes from Israeli leaders in this book that show the true nature of the Zionist project. Here's some gold from Ben Gurion himself:
When we say that the Arabs are the aggressors and we defend ourselves--that is only half the truth. As regards our security and life we defend ourselves. ... But the fighting is only one aspect of the conflict, which is in its essence a political one. And politically we are the aggressors and they defend themselves.
This book also makes the key distinction of framing Israel within the context of imperialism. Imperialist countries were the originators of Palestinian oppression, and they have allowed the state of Israel to continue this oppression because it serves their interests in the Middle East. Israel was founded against the consent of every nation in the Middle East and continues to exist against their consent. And while the one-state solution is the only viable path forward, Palestinian Liberation will never be achieved until we rid ourselves of Western imperialist domination!
This was such a good book, and did such a good job at explaining, in a succinct yet understandable way, the history of the evils of zionism, and the ways that it has, and continues to subjugate Palestinian people, and yet at the same time manages to keep Jewish people down by being an extremely right leaning conservative viewpoint. Example being that the US empire supports israel not because it specifically supports Jewish people, but because the US knows that it can use the reactionary nature of israel to dominate and subjugate the Middle East. Thus the US only seeks to use israel, not truly support it.
I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone who is curious about the subject!

A concise, well-written book about the Palestinian struggle that analyzes the problem through a leftist, global perspective. Many sources are used to back up the book's claims and an interesting appendix is also included.
