“One can change everything.”

This book was poetry. This book was perfection. Jewel E. Ann is one of my favorite authors, and with One, she has once again proven why. There was not a single part of this book that didn’t own me, heart and mind. The writing is flawless. I would give this story a million stars if I could.

“’You won’t remember me in the morning.’ ‘I won’t forget you when I’m dead.’”

We first met Cage and Lake in the Jack and Jill series. To have more of these two characters thrilled me. Lake is quirky, fun, and independent with a huge heart. She has lived through something traumatic, but she has come out stronger. I don’t think I could love her more if I tried. She is just an amazing and inspiring heroine.

“”Every touch. Every look. Every moment that felt like our connection had existed before we ever met. Yeah, I counted. Every. Single. One.”

Cage is an NFL star whose sole focus has been on the game and succeeding in his career. Right from the start, he proves he deserves Lake with every action and gesture. When circumstances try to conspire to keep them apart, he breaks down every boundary. The relationship between these two is why I read romance. It doesn’t get better than this.

“Give me you. Give me every tear. Give me every breath. Give me every fear. Give me every touch. Give me every smile. Give me every day.”

There are so many moments in this book that stand out for me. I was left with such a book hangover when I finished. No matter how much time I had with these two, no amount would ever feel like enough. Cage and Lake, and their love, will stay with me always. What an amazing talent this woman has, so grateful she gifts it to the world.

Swoon, swoon, swoon...

Oh my word, Jewel gives it to us good and sweet! While I devoured and adored the Jack and Jill series with its emotional turmoil, One is a much more peaceful journey. Sweet, sexy, and all kinds of swoony.

Lake deserves all the happily ever afters she can get. Her life has been hard and she's ready for what comes next.

One day...
One kiss...
One.

Jewel E. Ann gives this hopeless romantic everything she could ever want in One. I think I highlighted half of the book swooning over Cage. (Half the book!!!!!)

It's refreshing and a burst of color acter a grey day. ONE IS TRULY WONDERFUL.

“One is enough. It’s unique. It’s a chance, an opportunity, an experience. One is never greedy. One is independent. One can change everything.”
In my mind, humor and angst go hand in hand with Jewel E. Ann’s books. One is a bit of a departure for her. It’s a sports romance that has all the wit, but none of the gut wrenching, anxiety producing conflicts I’ve come to expect. This book proves that Jewel can write lighthearted romantic comedy very well while maintaining an extremely touching quality.

What can I say about Cage, the hunky superstar quarterback with a huge heart? He’s an ice cream sundae with all the toppings. You’d have to be without a pulse if his romantic gestures and smooth lines don’t make you swoon.
“I love you in a way that feels so much bigger than four little letters.”Lake is one fierce woman: independent, confident, and bold. I love that she’s a survivor who doesn’t let her tragedies or disability define her. To say she’s also a little quirky is the understatement of the year. She has no impulse control when it comes to her words, and the things that fly out of her mouth are alternately hilarious and cringe worthy.

The blurb mentions Cage’s girlfriend. I know some readers are prickly when it comes to cheating, so let me just clarify that there is no cheating in this book. While the chemistry between Lake and Cage is intense, One is low on steam, with bedroom scenes that are more of the fade to black variety. This is a sexy but sweet romance. Shayna—the adorable little girl who lives across the hall from Lake—will definitely steal your heart.

What detracted from the story for me is that both Cage and Lake engage in some irrational and uncharacteristic behavior in the second half of the book. Fortunately, things get back on track and it’s a really enjoyable ride to the finish. The ending is absolute perfection.

Fans of the amazing Jack & Jill trilogy will appreciate the mini-reunion with characters from those books. One is a standalone spinoff; however, it contains spoilers from the Jack & Jill series so I recommend you read those books first.

This is a standalone but a perfect accompaniment with the Jack and Jill series, because who could read and NOT need this story? That's right, absolutely nobody.

I love Jewel E. Ann's books because they absolutely rip you to shreds and put you back together again, this book was no exception!

This story features a lovable FMC who has had to deal with many physical and emotional set-backs, but somehow she remains bubbly and optimistic, to the extent that she hides her insecurities from those that love her most. She is quirky, strong and witty.

To balance her is a MMC that is sweet, protective, hot, and easy-going; despite his own tragic loss (again, readers of the Jack and Jill know this well). Most importantly, he loves her so deeply that he not only sees her insecurities, but does his best to help her fight her inner demons.

These characters are wonderfully written and well-developed. The instant spark between them in the Jack and Jill series that led to this must-read story develops into a deep and true love.

This author writes deeply complex characters and heart-wrenching stories that you won't want to put down and that will wreck you in the best ways.

Lane and Cage not only got a perfect story that suits their imperfections, but they will do nothing short of captivating the hearts of the reader.

I'm indifferent about my feelings for this book... I liked it, but I think it was missing something for me and I'm just not sure what that something is. I liked the prosthetic leg aspect, I liked that they had a past, the Jessica thing just confused me, I liked that he was in the NFL, I liked Kong and Shayna.. I don't know. I just liked certain parts of this book that I thought were good or quirky but altogether it missed the mark for me. I did love Lake and Cage (although I hate those awful names). I love how in love he was with her. I thought her whole premonition thing was weird. And I know she had guilt about Ben and the accident but idk... This is so vague but that's just honestly how my feelings about this book are. It was good and not a waste of a read, but it didn't quite do it for me. When I finished I was like.. oh. It's over. Usually after a great book I'm super hype and telling all my friends about it. Summary- decent read but not the best (at least for me). There's still another Jewel Ann book that I want to read so I'll read that and see how it is compared to this.

Sidenote- I always highlight my favorite cute or funny or sexy parts of books. One of my highlights for this book as "But now I have this person in my life, and she's melted butter and warm syrup on hot waffles, a blues song on the radio at sunset with a cold beer in hand, and the smile on my face when I'm all alone. And if someone asked me to choose a lasting image to take with me before I died... I'd pick her face." WHY IS THAT SO CUTE
