This book is both the product of its time and the time period it is set in. There are some pieces in it that have aged poorly, but I beg of you not to hold it against the book. The one liners are funny, the concept is unique, and if you love a good cozy mystery but are looking for something a bit rougher, this is for you.
While not the best of the series in my opinion, this mystery gathers some energy around the interaction between Kinsey and the relatives of the two dead men. The homeless characters are also particularly well-drawn. For me the book could have been cut about 100 pages so it didn't get bogged down in unnecessary details.
I have just read the last 4 books in Graftons alphabet series, and this was, by far, my least favorite. While I enjoyed Kinsey's sharp wit and tongue is this book, I just felt the rest of the characters lacking, and I did not enjoy the story line. It felt initially confusing, and the way Kinsey became entwined in the story, just didn't sit well with me. I will be looking forward to X, Y and Z, and hope Grafton ends the series doing Kinsey, and the rest of those near and dear to her: Henry, William, Rosie, Cheaney, justice.
While I always enjoy Sue Grafton's novels - I've listened to them since I was a teenager riding with my parents to the beach - I was somewhat unsatisfied at the end. I've anticipated this next release for years, and felt there were loose ends left dangling. In addition, there just wasn't enough build up to the actual climax - it just ... happened.
It was a good listen, but not a plot that dazzled me like her others. While I hate that the series is winding to a close, I hope the last letters will leave me impressed like olden times.

Lots of different threads that eventually come together. Little more Kinsey background - feels like there's still a lot missing given the amount of the series that is left.

I agree with the reviewers that said this book had some problems. Jackie said it well. While I still care for Kinsey I wondered if it was time for her story to end anyway. It's a long long time ago we started reading these stories and 'Crime' has changed.
