intricately researched and beautifully crafted. more academic than i thought––to the point of feeling dense at times––but that's on my own expectations as to what the mushroom at the end of the world would be rather than any fault of the book or author.

most remarkable is anna lowenhaupt tsing's central conceit and its simultaneous and sporadic organization. there's an artistry here that i wish more nonfiction texts would embrace, and mushroom presents a shining example of possibility. i read it via audiobook too, and i feel like i would've been able to appreciate its organization even more with a physical copy where i could traipse around and flip between sections.
