carter was everything when reading this book. the only reason it's not a 5 is because carter made olivia's personality trait being 5'1 and it got jarring after she was already described.

This book was like 80% fluff which isn’t a bad thing, it’s just not what i was expecting. I did really like olivia and carters relationship. Their banter was cute and I loved all of the side characters. i did have some issues with the conflict towards the end of the book. It didn’t feel super believable and seemed easy to solve if they just talked to each other? idk. i also was expecting this book to be waaay spicer than it was and don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t quite lacking, but a lot of the scenes felt rushed so if you’re coming to this book purely for spice just be aware that the the spice in this book doesn’t hold up to the first scene. overall cute read.

Carter, NHL player, has a reputation for being a playboy. It's is a very well deserved reputation. He is closed and doesn't "do" relationships, only one night stands. He has his sights set on Olivia, a high school phys Ed teacher. Olivia doesn't have one night stands and turns down Carter at every advance. Carter continues to persue her and along the way it becomes more than a game to him.

Olivia judges Carter on his reputation and refuses to be another notch on his belt, she isn't that kind of woman. His charm is hard to resist and she finds herself drawn to him as she gets to know him better. She is understandably scared of getting her heart broken.

This book was so cute. I really liked Carter and found him very endearing, even though he did boarder on childish some times. Knowing his background, it is understandable that he would shy away from relationships. Yet, he falls hard and fast for Olivia, a feeling he isn't used to. I enjoyed reading his POV as he tried to process and work the those feelings.

I love that throughout most of the book Carter is incredibly honest and open. He values open communication with Olivia. It did annoy me that during the big "conflict" he withdrew from that and miscommunication ensued. I wish that he had just been honest with Olivia instead of closing her out. Yes, what happened was awful and he was trying to fix it, but he could have driven her away instead of them working through it together.

I really loved the first half of this book. I enjoyed the witty banter and tension between the MCs. After that it got a bit repetitive and I felt like the characters regressed.

Olivia became a bit annoying. She was not a super interesting character. She worried so much about being "not good enough" for Carter, pushed him away, and closed herself off. It became very repetitive after awhile.

I loved the side characters, they added so much to this book!

Tropes: hockey romance, reformed playboy, opposites attract

With all due respect, eliminate the “self-insert fanfiction to self-published novel” pipeline.

I tried for ten days (!!!) to read this book and got less than 200 pages in. Both MCs are insufferable, and the only character I actually liked, who I would have been willing to push through for his book, was Adam, and he doesn’t have a book yet.

Everything about this screams fanfic, from the chapter titles to the absolutely insane back-and-forth "will they/won't they" to keep the fic going to the repeated lines between chapters (because it might have been a minute between updates). I know the formula.

But the thing is, you need to edit it. And this is so not edited.
