i just generally didn’t like the book. i was forced to read it for school and thought it has the most mind-boring plot ever.

Read it for school as I'm sure most people did. It's alright; way shorter than I thought it would be. The writing is good, but it also comes across as a little bit whiney and pessimistic, and it ends up sounding like every other book written and set in that era of time. It's extremely hard to like any of the characters, which might be the point but it made it kind of a slog to read even though it's so short.

This was a very slow boring read that I had to read for class and would personally not read again.

Of mice and men is set on a farm in California. It definitely isn't my usual type of read but I found the morals of the story very interesting. One thing I noticed is that Steinbeck explores different types of prejudice and discrimination in this book and there is a character for each type. Curley's wife represents sexism, Crooks represents racism, Candy represents ageism and Lennie represents discrimination towards people with mental disablilities. Just to note, there's some vulgar language the other characters say towards these people but I don't think that Steinbeck meant it personally; he just wanted to show the reality of the 1930s.

It was one of the first books in a long time that made me truly uncomfortable and I really disliked all of the characters. The main ideas are so deeply hidden that I had to read analysis to understand what exactly this book was written for. I read it only because my literature professor used it as an example of "mice and men" model of society when we were discussing O. Wilde but her explanation of the book is definitely better than the work itself. It was super weird and shocking, I had to take pauses and read this small story for days.
