Giving this 3 stars as it started off strongly and I was intrigued, but it lost me towards the end and became a bit of a mess.

Family dynamics and hidden family secrets are the basis of this novel. Chloe Taylor seems to have everything. She is happily married to Adam - a lawyer, with a great son, Ethan, and a successful career as a magazine editor. But then, you find out that all is not what it seems to be on the surface.
Chloe has an odd relationship with her sister, Nicky, who is Adam’s first wife and Ethan’s mother! And then, Adam is found dead. The perfect family presented to everyone starts to unravel. Lots of twists and legal strategy at play. Enjoyable and fast read.

This rating might be unfairly low as I’ve read a few books with similar characters that create the entire story by lying, withholding information and poorly communicating. Otherwise, I might have rated this book higher. Some of the background information wasn’t naturally introduced into the story and that took away from my enjoyment.

Domestic thriller about a successful magazine editor (Chloe) whose husband is murdered. She was his second wife: he was previously married to her sister and they have full custody of his son from that marriage. While Chloe is an initial suspect the police quickly turn to her 16 year old stepson Ethan. The majority of the book is about the trial and our seesawing suspicions about who is the truly guilty individual (there are a few possibles).

It started really well and did just enough to keep me invested till the end, but ultimately I didn't particularly care for this one. I didn't feel any empathy for any of the characters and the very final twist felt unnecessarily silly.

This is one of the rare books I decided not to finish. Got half way through and just couldn’t do it. So bad.

2.5 stars. Quick murder mystery to get me unstuck in other books.

This book was “okay”. I was surprised by the ending, though as you read the book, you begin to realize who the killer is. It wasn’t a “page turner” but it was a good story and worth the read. It a scenario that no one wants to be in; you divorce a man you had a baby with and then your sister goes and marries him. Plus, she is a better mother than you.
