This was one of my first courtroom thrillers and I enjoyed it. I’m not really a Law and Order kind of person, so the courtroom maneuvering was more lukewarm drama than true tension builder, but even so—I wasn’t bored. And for real, I did not KNOW how this was going to end. Like any thriller reader, you’re collecting clues and making your own opinions about who did what… but for the life of me, I didn’t know who the murderer was nor how the whole story would end.

The plot and suspense is totally centered on the unreliability of the narrator which feels annoying at times when, as the reader, you want to be the detective. That said, discovering new things all the way toward the last parts of the book was exciting.

Finally, I did not anticipate that DV/IPV would play such a major role in the story but it really does. It’s done relatively respectfully but it is also a fulcrum upon which the story turns. Using DV for dramatic reveal and momentum building device feels like an oversimplification.

Pretty good thriller, didn't know who it was until the last couple of chapters and didn't see it coming at all.

Knocked off a couple stars for the non-stop in-your-face feminism because come on now, you don't need to beat it in our heads about girl power through the whole book lol

This has been on my TBR for awhile and I finally decided to give it a shot. It was a quick read, but it wasn't anything that I'd say was amazing. It was good, not great. The domestic thriller plot was ok, until the end when it seemed like there were too many twists to make it even close to realistic. There were some flaws and plot holes, but it was one of those books where you did want to keep turning the pages to see what happened next.

Overall, it was ok, but I liked The Wife by this author much better.

This was way better than I thought it would be - the premise (one sister marries another sister's husband) could have been so terrible, and yet the story was intriguing and bingeworthy.

Plus, I see you, Howard Stern shoutouts!

It wasn't a great or even good read but ok. The stories are starting to seem formulaic. Like every book seems the same. Not a good position for a writer to fall into as there are so many examples of good writers becoming mediocre due to formula writing.

a family thriller that keeps you guessing until the end. behind the facade of success and power all is not what it seems. Secrets are being kept by the members of the family but when Dad, Adam , is killed the perfect family facade falls apart. Who killed him? His son? And why?

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc for my honest review

Having been a huge fan of Alafair Burke’s already, I knew this book would live up to her reputation and guess what….it did!!

Mystery, suspense, even a bit of thriller mixed in; I completely devoured the story and really couldn’t put it down.

Two sisters, a husband and a son with domestic abuse and murder mixed in…what could possibly be the reasoning and who comes out of it alive without a prison term?

Five Stars all the way!!!

A huge thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins for the advanced readers copy, I’m not sure i could have waited till the release date!!

rating a 3.5. this book was actually very intriguing and i read it in a day. two sisters, the same husband. its a true who dunnit. the story was put together really well and you truly don;t find out who did it until the end of the book. there are a few twists but nothing completely shocking. this story was very believable and not cheesy like some other mysteries.
