This was a disappointing pick; I assumed it would be better since it was from the library’s express collection.
A bit contrived and repetitive at times, but it really picked up in the second half. The chapter endings always made me roll my eyes at the references to the various threats or “the hunt”. I agree with the other reviewer who thought it was weird that each chapter started with a quote from a character but that was really the only way we got to know him for a while.
I didn’t care about the mystery for a long time because we were led not to like the victim due to the history with the main character. But we were told by other characters that we should care, so there was a bit of a disconnect - by caring about the victim we were left doubting the perceptive abilities of the main character.
Definitely being set up for a sequel, not sure if I’ll pick it up.

This was just not very well written, especially the dialogue. If felt like sometimes the characters were addressing the readers directly to give a recap of what just happened. Some of the reactions just didn’t feel authentic or like what people do. The main character is kind of annoying, Carole is an icon though, she was the bright spot of the book.

Was nearly a DNF but the latter half was alright. I am tired of poorly done divorce narratives. Do not listen on audiobook if you don’t want to be insulted by a British person’s approximation of an American Southern accent.
