Maybe I’ll come back to it later but honestly, fond as I am of Abercrombie’s grown-up novels, his YA-books feel a little plain. And I’m sorry to say it, because normally I think of him as one of the most brilliant writers I’ve read in my life.

Although it picked up pace at the end and delivered subtle hints leading to a brilliant twist right at the end, this book felt rather slow going and in parts predictable.

It was hard to put this one down. Abercrombie never disappoints me - a great story with a vividly painted background world peopled with very real characters, political machinations, love, betrayal and a dozen other emotions. I love Abercrombie's characters, often for their flaws not despite them and I'll be reading the next book in the series straight away, something I rarely in a series of books. Brilliant stuff!
