Metro Girl

Janet Evanovich

This was my first Janet Evanovich and I was sucked it by her humor and the endless crazy situations that Alex ends up in. I also found this surprisingly interesting because the main male character is a race car driver (not only an unusual occupation for a male lead but also something that is close to my heart). I also really liked how you got a very detailed description of the city and you almost felt like you would have been able to navigate if you had went there. While this was a romance-ish story, it was also an adventure story. Narrated by C. J. Critt - wonderfully done. I can't wait for book 2.

Never read a Janet Evanovich book that I didn't like. Older one but still a good one.

This book is seriously lackluster when compared to Stephanie Plum. Barney is cut from the same mold - a tough girl with a bad-luck streak that lands her in hot water, but the book wasn't nearly as laugh-out-loud funny as theStephanie's. It wasn't bad, and I never considered quitting it altogether, but it just fizzled out. I didn't care if I read it or not. And that was a bit if a bummer.

As a side note, anyone know why this is listing as a graphic novel? I copied the ISBN number, and I definitely did NOT read a graphic novel.

Holy deja vu! This book is exactly like the Stephanie Plum series - same characters, different names. Same interaction between the characters. Same plot, different location. Same ending.

I'm kind of disappointed in Evanovich - it's like she pulled up her last book on the computer, went through and changed some names, locations, and details - slapped a new cover on it and called it new.

Fast read but didn't love...

Alexandra Barnaby gets a call from her brother in Miami that ends with a woman screaming. She knows something isn't right so she heads down to Florida to try and find him, coming across NASCAR driver Sam Hooker. Alex's brother stole Hooker's boat so he has reason to try and find him.

Evanovich is known for her fun-loving characters, specifically with the number series and Stephanie Plum. The problem that I had with this book is that it felt like a cheap copy of the characters from Evanovich's number series. Alex was the independent female with a carefree attitude towards danger. Hooker is the sexy but somewhat undesirable man who tries to help. There's also a cast of characters that help these two find the brother. Really, the only thing that was missing was Grandma Mazure.

That said, this book was still fun. Just not as fun as Stephanie Plum!

I absolutely love this author. This was a re-read. I miss Barney and Hooker. I listen to these books, and my life seems to be alright.

I always love the laugh until I cry moments!!!!

After reading the Stephanie Plum series, I thought I would try something new by the same author. This was a quick read, as is so characteristic of Evanovich, but I felt it lacked a certain flair that I find in the Plum novels.
