I don't think I knew where this story was going in the beginning but it ended up being kind of sweet. I think the whole "I can't love two people" got to me and hearing the words "I am not an experience for you to have" felt like a gut punch.
Sam is trying to deal with her husband asking for an open marriage- to see if there's more out there after settling down young and raising young kids. Sam doesn't want change and things aren't that bad. SO they agree to take the summer and Sam ends up on a road trip with a long time friend. In exploring her new situation, Logan and Sam end up discussing long time feelings and how it felt to squash those down in order to be where they were, but things can only stay squashed for so long.

Another romance book I go full on high expectations and it didn’t meet them.
I liked the idea of the story, and found it interesting but my main problem was that I couldn’t feel the chemistry between the main characters ☹️

This was a great romance novel with a good amount of sex scenes.
I love the cars that Logan has restored and the trips that Sam and Logan get to take across the country in these cars, I was a little jealous of these fictional characters.
The ending was perfect; I loved the discussions that Sam had with Will and Logan in advance of the ending. They were realistic discussions for the situation Sam had found herself in.
Nancy Peterson did a great job narrating the story and I look forward to listening to more of Nancy's work in the future.

Samantha Parker always believed her relationship with her high school sweetheart was perfect. For the last twenty-two years they have had the perfect marriage, perfect family, perfect life - until he asks if she would consider an open marriage. The journey Sam takes during the summer off from her relationship makes her realize she hasn’t been herself (does she even know who that is?) and has always been a bit too selfless with everyone in her life. The concept is incredibly relatable and has you questioning your own life a bit. How often do we sit in relationships for comfort, knowing they may not actually be the right ones for us? How often do we find ourselves giving and giving and giving until we realize we have nothing left? This is a sweet story about finding yourself again, not realizing you lost yourself in the first place. This book provides you with lots of opportunity for introspection.
At times I did think it was a little repetitive, but I still loved it. Beautifully written.

Favorite quote: “This summer she was…. Sam. Not Samantha and Will. Just Sam.”
This self discovery summer read is perfect for the start of the season. I had such a good time reading this and getting to know Sam. Sometimes we truly are just wrapped up in the same stuff we do every day, every week that taking a step back to relax, travel, talk with someone new opens our eyes to all of the good things in life. This is the first Maisey Yates book I’ve read but it definitely won’t be the last!
Thank you to NetGalley and Maisey for this ARC copy!
