woooww!!!!! this is my first murakami book and i can firmly say that 1) he’s an amazing author and that 2) he’s an absolute freak. i think this is one of those books where i understood so much reading it, but still feel that there is so much more to understand about it. it’s characters exist in this strange state of conscious and unconscious, magical realism to a T… if only he would write women well.

It's like fine wine.
Everyone won't like it.
You will have to read some other stuff, other classic books, a taste of magic realism and all that before you get here.
The ending is criticised by many but once you start reading it you will understand the flow, how the story is and by the time you reach the end you will understand why it ends like that even though you might not agree to the ending. Hell, you might not like the whole story but the time won't surely be wasted.
I highly recommend it to one and all.

A trippy combo of Catcher in the Rye and Oedipus Rex. Slow moving at times. Not sure what the takeaway was supposed to be.

I’m only giving it 3 stars bc the writing is just good and the magical realism is very magically realistic!! but dear lord this was SUCH a PAINFUL read , i could not in good conscience recommend this book to anyone. Made me cry in public, almost vomit a couple times, simply awful reading experience.
If anyone recommends this book to u, they ur opp‼️‼️‼️
