Introduced a new old character. I think this story ties in with a short story I read months ago. Enjoyable as always, the only sour note was why Lannes kept running even when he knew Charlie's friends were just behind him

Done 3.5 stars-
A woman, wakes up to find herself in a room, filled with smoke, she is covered in blood and there are three dead men on the floor, she has a gun and a note pinned to her shirt that says 'RUN". She does and on her run she meets a man, who is not exactly like other men, he is a gargoyle, with a damaged soul. She does not remember anything before the moment she woke, but somebody is hunting her. These two lost people start a journey of death, fear, mystery and discovery.
More story based than romantic, the sex was earned not instant, the female was not an idiot, and the Gargoyle was hot, overall enjoyable. I still will not search out books by this author, she just doesn't excite my senses with her writing, but if one falls in my hands I'll probably read it someday.

I'm not a fan of amnesia stories. Lannes was interesting: haven't seen many gargoyles in fiction. I liked the old guy and his farm.

Total fluff, but it passed the time while I was waiting for the tax workshop to open this morning—I mean, it's a romance novel in which the hero is a gargoyle! Can you think of a better way to spend a Saturday morning? Said hero—Lannes—makes the kind of deeply stupid choices that one normally expects of a heroine in a romance novel, but he's quite likeable and pretty well-adjusted despite that. (Trin: I'm sure you'll be glad to know that he drives a vintage 60s black Impala.) The plot is even more of a hot mess than is usual in Liu's books (I'm still not entirely sure how or why either the initial incident or the denouement occurred), I'm still waiting for a non-hetero couple to have an Instant Soul Bond, and the heroine seems rather a non-entity (then again, she is an amnesiac), but as mindless escapism, The Wild Road works just fine.

Disappointed. This one wasn't nearly as good as the other books in this series. Felt like the other was calling it in rather than be invested in the writing. Was confusing not being shown or even told enough information to make the story flow. Maybe the author was just trying to make you feel like the character who had their memories ripped out, but it was a disjointed way to tell a story that didn't feel complete.

And come on the information in the epilogue is totally different from the family in the beginning of the next book! :(

Liu's writing is really just so good that it is hard for me to distinguish how much I am rating for the story, which is usually the most important thing to me, and how much I am rating for the sheer joy of reading writing that (stylistically) flows in such a satisfying way. That being said, this amnesia plot is one of the better ones I've read. I also just really like Charlie and Aggie.

I found this book to be a great surprise! I’m generally picky about urban fantasy and paranormal romances, but Liu’s writing is wonderful and I found myself thoroughly enjoying this story. So much so that I’d like to visit the rest of the series.

The Wild Road is a bit slow-paced, but there’s a strong current of mystery running through and pulling one along. The romance is a little bit of a slow burn — to great effect in my opinion. The characters were quiet and strong. The mythos was intriguing. And I loved how everything came together in the end.
