“Beautiful Prey,” by Lora Darc

I loved this book way more than I even thought I would. I like dark romances, but I usually feel that the dark romance aspect overshadows a well written and full plot but not this book. The plot was so good, I loved every second of it. I was so sympathetic to both the MC’s and I was so conflicted that I didn’t even know what I wanted to happen. Emery was so tortured, and I loved tortured men in books, he just needed way more care than he had gotten which is where Eve comes in, even though she wanted to hurt him she is such a kind person so she couldn’t help herself but to see good in him still. The family drama was such a good addition to the story and Lora Darc wrote it so perfectly. I cannot wait for book 2. 5 out of 5 stars, wouldn’t change a thing.

I have so many mixed emotions right now. I really enjoyed this book! I love the easy writing style the author used and how it grabbed my attention. What can I say I’m a sucker to a good book with spice and morally gray men.

I must say the last 10% was rough for me… 1st my kindle died with 2% left of the book then once I got it up and running I finish the book and realized it’s a duet and now I have to wait until January to see what happens. I am not well and must eat some pumpkin Reese’s to get me through the next few months not knowing the ending.

All in all without my mini tantrum I loved this dark romance book!

Holy smokes this book was riveting! Seriously the definition of page-turner! I was up all hours of the night with this one! What a rollercoaster, I had no idea what was next most of the time. I laughed - good banter. I cried - emotionally connecting I felt there trauma. I fumed - they make dumb decisions and some side characters you want to deck. I felt! Every part of this book had me in some kinda feels and I stayed on the edge in constant anticipation!

It had everything i needed for delicious darkness!

1 killer MMC lol 2 tension and connection 3 the right amount of horror complete with blood and gore 4 love the added psychological thrill 5 touch her an unalive 6 masked MMC 7 primal play including blood an knife play elements 8 trauma healing together

I don’t know if I can wait till January 2025 for book 2

I picked this book to read because I liked the premise of the book. It starts out with Eve Layne surviving a massacre the night of her 16th birthday, on Halloween. The psychotic killer was known as The Devil of Harper Pointe, Emery Blakmor. In an effort to understand this killer, Eve is pursuing a degree in psychology. Her thesis is going to be about....Emery Blakmor BUT Eve doesn't intend to tell him who she is.

Loved, loved, loved it. The suspense and overall drama of the whole book was great. The book was very detailed and descriptive, which I also enjoyed. The whole time I knew there was going to be a big confrontation, likely multiple, it was just a matter of when and how it would all play out. The characters change a lot over the course of the book. The biggest thing to me, was who was at fault for Emery. Not all psychopaths are born that way, most are created. Who was the creator of The Devil of Harper Pointe and why? “Rabbits don’t last very long. They never do.” I have some ideas that there are still more people to blame that will factor into the second book. The ending wasn't exactly as I imagined. It does end on a huge cliffhanger going into the next book. Will Eve and Emery survive? Frankly, I don't know if I will. Best quote:
“You're in my head. You're like a little bee buzzing around in there, creating a hive, trapping me with the idea of your sweet honey. But you still sting like hell.”.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

At no point did I know where this book was leading me and I loved that. I was immediately drawn into this storyline when Eve's family is murdered and she hides from the killer only to vow future revenge. What we get is a bit different than revenge but in the best way ;).

I honestly expected this book to be smuttier than it was and was surprised that it is a bit of a slow burn. I am happy that this focused on the characters more than the smut because it builds a relationship between the reader and the characters and we end up liking them more and rooting for them.

I am a bit bummed that this ends on a cliffhanger but I will be reading the second book because I'm going to need to know what happens and I am excited to find out.

Thank you to the author, Lora Darc for access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
