I thought this book was EXTREMELY similar to books from the Blue Blood series. It was an easy but interesting book. Haven't yet decided if I'll be reading the next book in the series!
This was a great first book. I like the idea, it is very creative, as well. The main protagonist was cool and determined, she irked me a bit time to time, but I liked the other characters just as much. So it was great read. On to book two!
Toen ik in groep 8 zat begon ik met het lezen van de Academicus Vampyrus (Vampire Academy) reeks. Het verhaal van Rose pakte me direct. Het was spannend, romantisch en ik hield ervan. Vorige week besloot ik dat het tijd was om deze eens opnieuw te lezen om te kijken of ik het nog net zo leuk vind.
Ik heb dit keer wel kritischer gelezen en zeker wat op- en aanmerkingen. Nu ik het verhaal nog een keer lees, stoorde ik me aan het leeftijdsverschil tussen de hoofdpersoon en haar love interest. Rose is 17 jaar oud en Dimitri is 24 jaar oud. Toen ik dit boek als 11 of 12 jarige voor het eerst las, dacht ik dat dit het meest romantische ter wereld was. Nu ik zelf 25 jaar oud ben, moet ik er niet aan denken interesse te hebben in iemand waarmee ik zoveel scheel. Maar terwijl ik dit typ realiseer ik me dat het leeftijdsverschil in boeken zoals Twilight en The Vampire Diaries veel groter is en ik me daar nog nooit aan gestoord heb. Stof om over na te denken.
Nou, leeftijdsverschillen daargelaten, vond ik het boek nog steeds lekker weglezen. Het is fast paced en soms voelen dingen gehaast of relaties niet helemaal ontwikkeld, maar dat heeft mij er niet van weerhouden om weer helemaal in het verhaal te zitten. Ik ben van plan de delen hierna ook opnieuw te lezen, want ik vond het ook wel leuk hoeveel dingen ik niet meer wist. Blijkbaar zijn alle details onthouden (van een boek dat ik 14 jaar geleden las) erg moeilijk. Maar ja, ik heb het naar mijn zin gehad en dat is waar lezen voor mij om draait.
Conclusie: ik vind het nog steeds lekker weglezen, maar merk wel dat het uit 2007 komt, met de normen, waarden en visies van toen, die niet meer aansluiten op hoe ik naar de wereld kijk. Het blijft een van mijn favoriete boeken, maar meer vanwege de nostalgie dan de kwaliteit.

Revisiting one of my favorite series from my childhood. It’s still just as good
Me esperaba este libro como una novela de wattpad y ha superado mis expectativas. Me compré la serie entera para leerla durante los exámenes porque pensaba que iban a ser libros rápidos de leer y así ha sido. Me ha gustado muchísimo y ha superado mis expectativas con creces. Me ha encantado ver la relación entre Rose y Dimitri y ver como ha ido avanzando y estoy deseando saber que pasa en el futuro. No se los demás libros porque no los he leído pero este lo recomiendo mucho.

Vampire Academy tells the story from the PoV of the best friend of the super special snowflake character.
Rose, the main character, is such a badass. She's reckless, stubborn, loyal, passionate and arrogant. She's tough and doesn't let anyone take advantage of her, but she's also vulnerable and feminine. I love her voice, her humour and her snark.
The highlight of Vampire Academy is the friendship and bond between Rose and Lissa. Lissa is Moroi, a mortal vampire, and Rose is her best friend and future guardian/bodyguard. Lissa is kind and compassionate and has a gentle strength, I'm extremely excited about her character development in later Vampire Academy books.
The vampire mythology and history is interesting. There are different types of vampires - Moroi, dhampir, Strigoi, bodyguards, guardians, royals, politics and elemental magic. The second part of Vampire Academy deals with mystery. The mystery aspect is predictable, but I liked how everything is revealed.
I'm a fan of books with school settings. The majority of Vampire Academy is set in St. Vladimir's Academy, a boarding school for Moroi and dhampirs. There's high school drama, cliques, mean girls, gossip and teenage angst. I don't mind the teenage angst, but I'm not a fan of the girl-on-girl hate and slut-shaming.
There are two potential romantic relationships in Vampire Academy. The first one is the relationship between Lissa and Christian. Christian is my favourite character in Vampire Academy. He's witty, sarcastic and states the obvious when the other characters don't get it. I wanted him and Lissa to be together. The second one is the relationship between Rose and her mentor, Dimitri. Rose is still in high school and Dimitri is her teacher and while I find it difficult to want to them to be together, I understand their attraction. They both have similar values and take their responsibilities seriously.
Vampire Academy is quite juvenile in comparison to later books in the series, which become wider in scope and darker, but it's a good set up for the rest of the series. Also, holy hell when it comes to all the foreshadowing. Vampire Academy has it all - vampires, magic, mystery, action, drama and romance. What a fun read!

This book is one of my favorite, all the time I can feel exactly like the protagonist, Rose. I can only say this: I LOVE IT!
I realy enjoy the fact of the Rose is the protagonist and no how supposed to be Vasilissa the royal moroi.
The prohibited love between Rose and Dimitri is odd, He is too old for her and I prefer Mason, but the between Lissa and Christian is so wonderfull. I LOVED Christian in the moment i read him, the same case whit Mason.
