i liked this book. i liked the dynamic between lissa and rose, and i feel like rose was a good narrator. i watched the movie before reading and i also feel like the chemistry between her and dimitri is good!! better than the movie!

sometimes it was a little slow however and i feel like it was just boring compared to the acotar books i just read but it was a nice easy read!!

would’ve liked to see some foreshadowing for natalie seeing as she literally turned strigoi for her father and her motive wasn’t very clear to me other than the fact that she loved him. i would’ve liked to see something funkier you know

also might i add lissa and christian got awfully boring after their happy ending whats gonna happen in frostbite

Why did no one tell me Rose would be such a baddie? Bella from Twilight could never.

This was a pleasant sort of surprise. Vampire Academy was not at all what I expected, and I’m certainly glad for it! While a *cough* certain series might have tainted vampire stories for me, this one might have fixed a bit of that.

Rose Hathway is a guardian, tasked with protecting her best friend Lissa who happens to be a mortal vampire. The two girls attend a vampire academy which is filled to the brim with good vampires and their protectors. The school is meant to train its members to defend themselves against immortal vampires who seek to wipe out and turn everyone who isn’t already one of them. What the academy doesn’t know is that Rose and Lissa have got more than a few secrets between them--secrets that could change lives forever.

The thing I loved most about this story was Rose. She was such a refreshing protagonist to follow! I loved her unapologetic attitude, and her complete willingness to speak her mind at all times. She really drew me into the story and created a lot of intrigue through witty dialogue.

“When I saw you fall..."
"You thought, 'Wow, she's a loser.”

While I really enjoyed a lot of the characters, I found Richelle Mead’s writing was nothing special. It was good enough to keep me entertained all the way through, though it didn’t stand out from many other books.

The plot never really took on a clear direction in this story. There were a lot of little things going on that didn’t amount to anything until the very end. I wish there was a slightly more concise path to the way things unfolded, as several events didn’t seem important until the last chapter or so. Richelle Mead does do a really good job explaining the world and rules of magic, though,

All of this being said, I still had a really fun time with this book. It was relatively light and quick paced with a cast of interesting characters to follow along the way. I might just have to continue on with the series!

Man i loved this book!!!!!!!!!!!! Rose is hilarious and she grew alot in this book. There was so much sacrificial love Rose for Lissa,Dimitri and Rose for Lissa anf Christian and Lissa. It was just so well writenn i read it in just a couple days couldn't put it down!

One of my all time favourite series! Just reread this as an adult and I feel all the feels for my younger self!

Oh my gosh. How do I even put this to words?

The writing was absolutely flawless, and I felt like the characters were very well-developed and I had a sense of how they really were. The story was fast-paced, so it kept my interest very high. Although some may say that this book somehow portrays a very high-schoolish feel, I would beg to differ. Sure, you have your typical drama and your cliques, but this IS a HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMY, and these situations are bound to happen. Therefore, in a way, I found it very realistic (all vampire stuff aside). Rose and Lissa's friendship is magical, and you can really tell that they love each other and they would do anything for the other. I felt like, although it is already quite developed, their bond certainly grew stronger, mostly because they were "faithful" to each other in some very traumatizing situations. Rose is somewhat of a reckless character and so she did reckless things at times, but it did not get annoying simply because you knew it would benefit Lissa, and everything Rose did was for Lissa's own good. I was dying to see where Dimitri and Rose's relationship would head off to, and, in the end, I was quite satisfied. Yes, it did not turn out the way I might have wanted it to, but I'm pretty sure that things will turn around for this "couple." I've got to admit, the whole vampire thing did scare me at first, but once I read the first couple of chapters, I decided that it was NOTHING LIKE TWILIGHT. The plot is completely different (there are no wolves, first off). There is no irritating love triangle, the main character doesn't depend on people loving her (quite the opposite really), and just the whole vampire concept is original. Yes, you have your traditional vampires, but we're presented with a new system of vampires. The highest in the "social ladder", so to say, are called Moroi, which are the mortal vampires but the sun sort of hurts them, they depend on blood more than Dhampirs, some of them are royals, and they have the gift of manipulating natural elements such as water, earth, etc. Next are the Dhampirs, and they basically have less vampire blood in them. They can live out in the sun (their human side actually enjoys it), they collect protein from normal food (although they can still crave blood), and they usually serve as the Morois' guardians. Lastly are the Strigoi. These are your stereotypical can't-go-out-in-the sun type vampires, and they're looked down upon as the bad ones in this vampire society. They drink blood and kill and they completely "turn off" they're human side. They're faster and stronger than humans, Moroi, and Dhampirs, and they can also be turned by another Strigoi by choice or by force. Where the guardians come in, you do not want to be a Strigoi because they will tear you up.

Overall, I cannot wait to read Frostbite and I'm anxiously waiting for the movie to come out February 14, 2014.

This book was exactly what I needed. Fast-paced, entertaining, and just the right amount of angsty. I flew through Vampire Academy and am already working on book two.

Rose is a fantastic protagonist. She's funny, bold, and fiercely loyal to Lissa, which added a great emotional layer to all the action and drama. Lissa wasn't quite as compelling to me, but her storyline was still intriguing enough to keep me invested.

I really enjoyed Richelle Mead’s take on vampire mythology. I love when authors add their own twist to vampirism, and the Moroi/Strigoi/dhampir system felt unique without being overly complicated. The plot kept things moving and the tone hit that sweet spot between lighthearted fun and genuine stakes (pun intended lol!)

This isn't a heavy or overly deep book, but it's not trying to be. And that's part of what makes it so enjoyable. It's pure brain candy in the best way. If you're looking for a quick, addicting vampire read with strong female friendships and a compelling setup for more, Vampire Academy delivers.

Highly recommend to anyone who loves paranormal YA or just wants something you can't put down.

I really enjoyed this one! It had been on my tbr for years and I’m glad I finally picked it up. It feels very 2010s nostalgic YA fantasy.
Lately it’s been harder to enjoy YA but I like reading from Rose’s POV. The one thing is I’m not sure how I feel about her and Dimitri and the age gap…

This series has me hooked! I couldn’t put it down! I love Dimitri, he is so sweet

This book aged like milk in terms of social issues. A quick and easy read, but man is it full of problematic scenes.
