I had the opportunity to take part in Letters from Watson, where the short stories of Sherlock Holmes were emailed out in (more or less) chronological order. Having read about half of them, this was a wonderful chance to revisit the stories. This set of short stories is a very good introduction to the character.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is one of my top 5 favorite books. Throughout the entire book all the stories are entertaining. I do not think I have been bored once by this book. The book is almost perfectly written with all the short stories in it. I would definitely recommend this book.

As an anthology of less known Sherlock Holmes stories, this is a pretty solid one. I enjoyed most of it, even considering the racism and sexism in some stories. It is a product of its time, after all.

I would say my favourite was the first story, A Scandal in Bohemia. It is famously one of the few adventures where Holmes is beaten by someone smarter than him. It also contains one of the clearer descriptions of Holmes being aroace.

The latter stories were a bit boring, but since it’s Holmes they still have merit.
