I thought certain aspects of this book were beautiful, but in the end it was just missing something. the whole book felt like it was leading up to something big, something really emotional, but it just never happened. it was never emotionally investing, and it was not purposefully disconnected. this should've been a very heavy book but nothing hit. neither of the characters really had personalities either. the poetry was 50/50. sometimes it was really good, others just normal writing with less dialogue and more spaces.
what I liked:
-the theme of family.
-the descriptions and figurative language.
-the perfect illustration of the fear of perverts that women everywhere have to live with.
-the idea for this book.

I will read anything Acevedo writes and desperately hope she writes a sequel to this. I need to know what happens next.

The book is fun and poignant, and I enjoy the verse style of writing. I loved this story and the dichotomy of the two sisters.

Audiobook is a must. The book is written in verse and it’s wonderful performed by the author. Two sisters, only two months apart, find out about each other after their father’s death and have to come to terms with grief and not really knowing the father they each loved.
