like 5 pages in i burst into tears and had to put the book down for an hour. never happens to me 5 stars
This was a really powerful and heartfelt read. The very specific imagery and details Shange uses for each woman's story really struck a chord within me, and seeing these women find solidarity in their experiences was both affirming and uplifting. Definitely recommend others read it if you haven't yet ❤️

As a white woman, I know this was not written for me. The emotion I felt from reading it though I know must be amplified for the target audience, and that empathy was worth the read.
Each of these words hold such power, you have to read it in waves. I appreciated it deeply. It was vast, far reaching and there is power in despair. It's definitely a book I can and will read over and over.
