I would like to see the performance. I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had seen the performance first and then read it.

It's amazing to me that so many women say this book is such an honest representation of their life as a black woman in America. It one of those books that's deep and profound while still beautifully written. I think some of that beauty gets lost on the page and I would love to see it performed and will have to read this again to absorb even more of the heartache and hardship that it embodies. However, despite the despair this work contains it is a book of hope and even has moments of joy attesting to the strength of women everywhere.

A phenomenal text that thoroughly captures the spirit of the black female experience. While no one text can cover everything this text does a phenomenal job of capturing the essence of the experience. Sad, empowering, calculated and masterfully composed, this is a must read for anyone who is a fan of black women writers, story-telling and narrative. 5 stars.

This would have been a four star read, but then I got to Crystal’s story.... All I can say is WOW...I’m shooketh.... This “Choreopem” is going to stay with me forever. I would love to see this performed. I saw the movie that came out in 2010 that was based off of this. It’s different. The movie didn’t have me wowed like this does.

Several sections gave me chills, some gave me headaches. Acout 20% awesome, 40% tedious/offensive, and 40% middle-ground.
Worthwhile overall for several effective sections, the 1-page abortion one being my favorite (mice). I'd have preferred to see it on stage, but isn't that always how it goes?

It took me this long to FINALLY read this.

Tarana Burke brought it up in her book, so that was the push I needed to go find it.

I'm extremely interested in seeing a production of this, I've started watching the (Tyler Perry) movie, and I'd love to see a stage production.

The words are powerful; I imagine they're even more powerful when spoken out loud.

I first saw the play in late 79 or early 1980. It shattered some mental protections (delusions) is had about my own life and I’ve revisited this work as both book and play many times.
I am a white woman, and at times I’ve felt some wonder at how I could relate so earnestly to so many of her stories, but I think that just proves her point.

Definitely need to see this performed. Powerful words and themes but it must be heard not just read.
