This play of poetry, song and dance is exactly what I needed to read right now.  It's true that colored girls will find this when they need it.  I personally found it to be a way to connect with my mother.  To better understand, hear and see her.  So much I can relate to and so much that parallels what my mother had been through.  It's a beautiful work of art that encompasses the different fractions of colored girls.  It hurts my heart but I felt incredibly seen.

5⭐️ Beautiful collection of poetry. Tells a series of heartbreaking stories and songs of recovering ones wellness after tragedy. This book is beautiful. Better if listened to the poems. Reading it was hard for me because of the writing style is shorthand and doesn’t utilize punctuation. It is also written to be a play. Watch For Colored Girls directed by Tyler Perry to get beautiful recitations of this book. Also Youtube has a remix of it by BAND Gallery. I recommend reading/listening with a book club to discuss the meanings of the poems. Wonderful work!
