A play where a chaotic chorus of ladies interrupt each other, dance and live - with all the good and evil that comes with being a woman of color. Despite being written in the 70s, some things have not changed at all - like the way victims of rape are questioned. Definitely worth a read!

I need to think for a bit, before I can rate this.

4 stars on my first read but it's the kind of thing that I think will become 5 stars if i reread it

I related more to this book that I thought I would. So many words I feel could have come from my own mouth.

This Choreopoem is a sensual storytelling intertwining the lives of seven nameless Black Women. Personally, I think they are nameless to represent you, or me, or her. They are nameless so they could be anyone which is kind of intriguing when you think about it. Considering that these poems were written in 1974, I am not going to judge the stories or title too harshly. These are stories that have happened to Black Women today and therefore bring a sense of knowing to certain ones you read. My favorite is, "somebody almost walked off wid alla my stuff" – Lady in Green.

I recall reading some of these poems when I was younger, but being in my mid twenties I can understand them on a different level now. These are in a way a reflection of the authors life. As a writer myself that is very inspiring. It takes strength to be able to write with such vulnerability. I do think that this selection is better heard than read, as it can get confusing if you’re not used to reading plays or choreopoems. You can have more of a reaction by closing your eyes and really listening to the stories of these rainbow nameless women.

Will forever go triple platinum in my house. That "alla my stuff" piece of the book is especially stellar. Also, "I'm really colored and really sad sometimes" is a word.

I think one needs to see the play presented. Listening to audible just did not do it for me.
