Really good but I think I missed a lot by reading it instead of seeing it performed. These are poems that are meant to be brought to life with music, dance, choreography, and human voice and emotion, and all those things were missing on a one-dimensional page. I hope I get to see it performed in its full glory one day.

reading this made me excited to see how tyler perry will adapt it to the screen. wish i could have seen it on broadway.

I read this for my book club and really did want to enjoy it more than I did. I think there's insightful stuff here, but ultimately I just had a hard time reading it and understanding it at times. I appreciate the work the author has done and what's she is saying, but this one just didn't do it for me. Poems are hard!

This story is not for me, but Shange’s skill with words is truly inspiring. The play is a story of beauty, and black women finding beauty in themselves and in sisterhood. I did have to read this multiple times and do research to uncover the nuggets of gold Shange has sprinkled in this play. I’m incredibly honored to live in a world with artist like Ntozake Shange.
