the art was stunning and there were touching moments, but the d word was casually dropped way too many times by a straight girl, and nowhere did it address that she shouldn't be using it

Oh my god I've never seen transness be written this well. I relate so much, plus this book is so funny- I couldn't stop laughing (okay, blowing air harder through my nose, but still!). This is definitely going to be a favourite of this year's reads.

makes me sad that basically all of these characters (except phoebe’s dad and Surfer Girl) have zero redeeming qualities. mackenzie telling her friend she will “make you get an eating disorder” (or slightly different wording i dont remember) will stick with me for a while in a bad way

This was kind of long but cute. I did like the ending a lot, plus I liked that the school did Little Shop and how some of its themes reflected in the main plot.

great YA contemporary comic exploring transmisogyny and expectations of what it means to be a teenage girl.

Personally would have liked less of the terrible terrible boys, though I get that that was necessary for the main narrative..... Would have loved a bit more focus on the non-boy things as well, though.

I also feel like some of the things said were *very* horrible and followed up with not enough apology - there's a lot of very dramatic teen drama, I guess, and sometimes I feel like things can be written with more subtlety while still being just as damaging? I would have loved a little more of them talking things out afterwards, maybe.

And nice art that suited the story well!

Love the representation and the themes of discovering who you are. Would have liked to see more development of her relationship with her dad.
