I like reading graphic novels and often pick them up to help with a reading slump or to be able to reach my goal, however, I didn't plan on reading this one the first time I saw it in the library; the story happens in a high school and I feel like I'm past all of that. But I am SOOO glad I decided to read it. The story is funny, reflective, and deep all at the same time, it deals with transphobia, misogyny, and "girling up" (growing up as a girl in this society). It's a story about two characters who are different but help each other to grow, it highlights female friendship and shows the many ways it can be healthy and important for girls. Of course, it also deals with themes that unfortunately are part of being a girl: sexual harassment, guys feeling like they're better, and learning that you'll never be enough as a woman. This book felt like a wake up call for many things as well as a hug. I felt like the main characters were my friends and me back in high school, like I had a chance to relearn and relive everything. When I closed the book, I felt a bittersweet feeling, happy because I had the characters' company for some time and sad that the story was over; that's how I know this was a very good book.
