I really liked this book. The only issue I had was that the MMC wears crocks and it’s mentioned MULTIPLE times. Ick. But I loved the plot and the chemistry and the spice.

This was a very cute book- I listened on audible and it’s hard to not enjoy a Julia Whelan narrated book. It was a 4 star read for me until the last 20% and then this just dragged.
Okay but why is this the best contemporary book I have ever read and will probably ever read again????
Also why are both their backstories also my backstories and why is Daphne me?? Please this book hit me like a truck why was it so fucking good and so funny and so heartwarming and why do I want to live my live so much more now after reading it????

Emily Henry really thought she could get me love a man who wears crocs? (Spoiler alert: she did). Fake dating trope is top tier, their chemistry was great and even got some spice?! Also the line, “I’m a cynic. And a cynic is a romantic who’s too scared to hope” was a slap in the face, thanks Em!!!!!

I have only tried to read one Emily Henry book which I can no longer remember the name of, but I know my efforts were not successful.
I decided to listen to this as an audiobook ad I thought it might make it easier to get through.
I decided to listen to this out of curiosity and I found the premise interesting enough to keep going.
Didn’t enjoy the sound of the narrator doing male voices.
I hate Peter
I found Miles touching Daphne’s face/ kissing her head in those early chapters odd. But maybe because I am not one for physical touch.
I initially found Ashley irate, until her and Daphne become friends and I came around to her
Are milkshakes a staple of romance books? This is the second romance audio book I have listened to in which the male character makes a big song and dance about a milkshake place.
I did not care for the whole I’ll show you around my city thing as a way to give them unofficial dates.
I do not want to read chapter after chapter of Daphne oohing and wowing about the random food and drink Miles shows her. Least of all about asparagus. And I can’t deal with anymore moaning about food.
Sometimes Daphnes asks questions and I am like, are you stupid?
I feel like I can’t picture Miles, but that might be a me problem.
I don’t know why, but I fount Starfire sweet and endearing.
Kindly, I did not care about the library readathon. And there was far too much crying. All of the emotion was jarring to listen to in the audiobook. I can see it working better as a film scene.
By the end, I was just a bit tired. There was no real tension keeping them apart, therefore the time it took them to get together seemed dragged out.
I’m glad I gave it a chance, but I don’t for-see myself reading another Emily Henry in the future.

I really loved this! I actually related to some of the themes and I thought they were very well executed. Miles I particularly liked, he was such a literal ray of sunshine.
It didn’t get 5 stars because 1) I didn’t feel like it and 2) the resolution of Daphne’s conflict with her father felt unresolved. I would’ve liked to see what he has to say about what Daphne told him on the phone, but instead Daphne just mentioned “scheduled visits” he supposedly (and mostly) managed to attend.

2.5 stars. I did adore the realism of this book. The heartbreak, the recovery. This was a fake dating that I truly rooted for. There was no stupid reason for them to pretend the way they did and it worked. I loved that, but I didn't really feel connected to the characters as I like to feel when reading romance. It didn't feel like a romance for a good portion of the book, which I won't really take points away for because I love when women characters are focused on themselves and future endeavors. This book had a countdown that made sense. It also had a message that I find really valuable. I'd recommend this book to others but I'm not jumping off the walls for this story. This is my second EH read (I've read Happy Place), and one thing I will say is that EH knows how to write a sex scene.
