Side note before my review: as a daughter of a librarian, I loved all of the weird patron stories mentioned and I wished there had been more because it made me miss all of the weird patron stories my mom would tell me. It made me wish she was still around to tell me more of them. It also made me wonder why Daphne didn’t feel guilty about going to the library to wait for her mom (or dad) after school to pick her up because I don’t know how many times my mom had to stay at work late just to wait for a parent (who used the library as an after school day care) and was late to pick their kid up.
So 3.5 stars. It took a while to get into this book and the main characters. I feel it was mostly because it took a while to find out the root of Miles’ family situation as well as Daphne’s father issues. It really picked up in the second half once Julia entered the book. All of the side characters, especially Ashley and Julia, are amazing and I loved them. I weirdly wanted to hear more of Starfire’s past lives that were movie plots. I did wish for a more hell fire ending for Peter and Petra though… especially an epilogue about how miserable and alone and hopefully broke they each were but oh well. Also! Why tf would Peter and Petra invite Daphne and Miles to their wedding???
