This was my first time re-reading this book, and I think I enjoyed it more than the first. 

I have read all the published works by the author at this point and was able to see and make connections this time that I missed the first time.

I had a skewed memory of how Cassian acted in this book, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that he acted better than I remember. There are still some things that I am incredibly angry at him for, but I don’t completely dislike him as a romantic lead anymore. 

I think this series severely needed this change in POV as it helped form more holistic views of the different characters.

The one thing that suffered greatly from the re-read was the lack of development in the magic, fantasy and political elements. The magical artifacts are not well explained and the back stories are all poor rip-offs of classic literature. That being said I was able to fill in the gaps (and correct parts of the ending that I didn’t like/ didn’t think made any sense).

The story of self-loathing and friendship was as good as I remembered and a critical part of what makes this book excellent.

I adore Feyre; yet Nesta speaks to me in ways her sister’s character couldn’t begin to—enough for me not to mind the 3rd person omniscient. I think I preferred hearing of them, through them, rather than from them; all the thoughts of the Night Court members lived up to my expectations, yet still had me on an emotional rollercoaster. Throughout the series, I remembered exactly why I fell in love with slow-burn romances way back when—it only makes the scenes so much better. And by the time I got to this book, I craved the long journey of undiluted tension. To my surprise, Nesta and Cassian burned their way through that journey and left me reeling, desperate for more. SJM didn’t disappoint. I may have fallen in love with the Night Court back in ACOMAF, but they wholly own me now. Fiending for more.

I didn't like this book to start. I don't like Nesta. I don't like how selfish and self destructive she is. I wanted the focus back on Feyre and Rhys. But I stuck with it. Sarah J. Maas did not disappoint. I was hooked. Literally hooked for 2 days straight this is all I could think about. And I'm still reeling. This book is about survival. About learning to love yourself. The new characters, the depth of Nesta and Cassian, and the twists and turns of this immortal world will amaze you. I don't want to give anything away. I didn't expect to love this like I did. An absolute delight to read.
