I had a wonderful time reading city of brass, it was truly a magical character. All of the characters are so complex and just very real in the way of I very much worried and cared for the most part about all the of them. Nahri is truly an interesting main character because she get swept up into the strange new magical world and is brought into this overwhelming political conflict between different tribes of being she didn’t even believe existed, but despite that this place offers her an opportunity to pursue a life long passion.  Also this books plot is very focused on the political conflict between the djinn tribe and does talk somewhat frequently about war and the harsh and horrifying reality of what happens during war, nothing too graphic but something to be aware of (hence the warning I added).

Let me just say this audio is absolutely PERFECT to listen to as you drive.

City of Brass completely captivated my attention and I did not want it to end. Tbh, I have mixed feelings toward Dara and have no idea what to do with my emotions.

Nahri is in the worst situation possible and basically left to defenseless. Yes, she is a healer and has the attention that should have backfired in her face.

This series is a first for me where I basically got a "cheat code" after reading River of Silver. So I know who each character is and it actually helped me better get into the story. I tried listening to this audio first but got confused with many name mentions, but the novella helped me sort out who was who and I could envision them in my head better. (Yes, I did take thorough notes as where each novella story took place within the trilogy universe.)

So I am excited to delve into The Kingdom of Copper audio which LITERALLY became available today 2.20.23 form my libraries digital catalogue and I am so excited to start it!!! AAAAHHH!!!

The City of Brass has been on my TBR for way too long: it's been recommended to me many times by folks whose reading preferences I trust, but I just never got around to it until now.  I'm so glad I did -- I ended up buying the sequel before finishing.  This has everything I look for in a fantasy series: political intrigue and scheming, compelling magic, multi-POV storytelling, solid world-building, high stakes maneuvering, and characters who are all ethically ambiguous at best.  Definitely recommend.

Fun and adventurous and well written.
Many complex themes are explored and the perspectives of several sides are presented. This is a smart book, more than an adventurous romp (which would’ve been great as well).
I keep telling myself not to fall into any more trilogies but then I return to fantasy and they’re inevitable…
