DNF - worst book I’ve read all year  including zodiac academy.

Inconsistent, slow, repetitive, no chemistry between the characters, dialogue only exists to further the plot and not create relationships, MC and her BF don’t even seem like they like each other. Her random pet dog that serves 0 purpose. I should have DNFd after the first chapter in Darien’s POV.

Feels like a leaked first draft and not a finished product.

Had the potential to be great but read like a 3rd grade essay.

DNF’d, the plot is cool but that’s it.

I tried so hard. Didn't like the writing. Couldn't care to follow who was in it.

City of Gods and Monsters is a gritty, atmospheric romantasy that delivers on slow-burn tension, supernatural chaos, and a sprawling urban world that never stops moving. Loren is a relatable heroine caught in a web of danger and magic, and her dynamic with Darien—the brooding, morally grey leader of the Seven Devils—is pure sunshine/grump gold. The plot is packed with action, emotional twists, and just enough spice to keep things simmering, and even with a massive cast and complex setting, it never feels overwhelming or slow. Between the found family vibes, the “touch her and you die” energy, and the dark secrets lurking beneath Angelthene, this book had me fully hooked from start to finish.

The world building was great. At times the frailty of the FMC was frustrating at times but overall I liked the characters

I had heard soo many good reviews on this one so I was expecting a 5 star read. It felt a lot like the first crescent city book. Although Loren was a bit annoying, I probably related to her more than I usually do to a FMC. I enjoyed the characters and the world building but it feels like this book could have used a lot more editing
