“You are the kindest thing that has ever happened to me. You are…you are my home. And I think it’s safe to say that my life would be a whole lot darker without you in it. You light up my life…”

The final boss of urban fantasy - an easy four star review! Normally I’m a cosy sort of fantasy reader, but this really took me by surprise!

My highlights of the book:
✨A range of different magical/fantasy elements (witches, werewolves, demons, vampires, demon hunters etc).
✨A FMC who is sensible and has a great personality.
✨The MMC is very likeable, and the development of their relationship with the FMC is actually logical. Lots of giggling and kicking feet elements!
✨A mafia type setting.
✨Found family!!

My (very picky) dislikes:
✨There’s probably a bit of filler content that could’ve been removed.
✨I did notice one typo lol.
✨The ending felt a bit rushed and sort of random? The plot point was a cool idea but I think it lacked a little something??

The book is definitely on the longer side (760 pages?!?!?) but it is definitely worth it! As a vibe reader, I would 100% recommend this!

While I did enjoy reading this book, It wasn’t something that really captured my attention, the writing was simple, you know? not really complex at all. which is fine, it’s just different from the things I usually like reading. it’s one of those books I would say is surface level at best. It’s well rounded, doesn’t underperform in any rating categories however it certainly doesn’t excel. I heard about this book through a girls favorite 5 star books on TikTok, and I can say I’m glad to have read it, but I’m certainly not in a rush to buy/read any of the other books in this series just yet. Overall, I would say it’s a comfort read, with decent and likable characters, a mediocre and predictable love story, with an even more predictable plot/storyline none of the characters are really complex and everyone is really cut and dry. The love story is one of like Wattpad level, (again, which is fine) and if I had to sum up the book I’d say it’s a decent one, nothing to really dislike, just nothing to really write home about. I guess I am a little excited to see if the characters/plot/writing improve in any of the other books.

I dont know how to explain it, but whenever I see a dialongue akin to "we're not doing that. You remember what happened last year, right?" I immediately brace for a shitty time.  🫠 not worth the read if that's how we start this off.

Thoroughly enjoyed this but a few too many things fell short. So much world building yet barely any explanation of how their world actually works (government, laws etc), way too many characters to keep track of, it could’ve been so easy to make the FMC less dumb and give her a shred of self preservation, the slowest most infuriating burn between the main characters with the most anticlimactic end imo, overall the book could’ve easily been 200 pages shorter.

i. love. mortifer. I will feed him ice chips all day. Where to i get a mortifer please?
This series is the slowest of SLOW fricking burn. The tension and anticipation. I'm dying here.
IT WAS SO WORTH IT THOUGH.

Loren and darien.. where do i even begin. At first i found loren mildly irritating, which wasn't her fault as she is just human. But her whole 'im weak and human' pity party had me irritated at times. HOWEVER, her selflessness and caring for others was rather sweet so you can't fault her for not being the typical feminine rage fmc. Different can be refreshing sometimes.

HELLO ? THE PLOT TWISTS ? I was so gripped to this book and the politics within. i can't wait for the next one !
Also every negative thing about loren that i have said and thought, i take back. The ending of this book gave me whiplash like ive never endured before. I am absolutely gobsmacked.

Darien started of as a dark and broody brute until he met loren. Since then he became a very emotionally confused guard dog. He is so traumatised and emotionally unavailable to begin with but loren pulls him right out. Their bond had me screaming, crying and throwing up. The lengths these two would go for each other is immaculate.

The story had the potential to be fun, but the main character made me want to set myself on fire.  I've never met a character that was a literal deer in headlights.  Any danger, she freezes. Given the chance to make a decision, she jumps into traffic.
