It’s gritty and I’m probably too old for it but I enjoyed anyway (just glad I’m past my early twenties).
While I think this book dragged a bit from the 75%-90% point, I did just enjoy the journey. Plus the final page made me gasp. But what I enjoyed most about this novel was the writing, though I can’t quite pinpoint what it gets right for me. It definitely did something for me though, because I’m not usually one for stories of a disillusioned/depressed young woman on a party scene trying to drown her problems. Yet I am glad I read this one nonetheless.
Dnfed this at 150 pages. I was sooo let down by this one because the synopsis really drew me in and gave me expectations of an exciting, short thriller but this was not the case at all. Normally you’d expect thrillers to take a bit to pick up but I just can’t seem to get into the story line or take an interest in the mc’s life and there’s so much mundane info.
Who knows, maybe I might come back and finish this once I’ve finished my physical tbr but I don’t see it happening anytime soon lmao
- Naomi :)

I am sorry but this book is a whiplash, but not from start to finish. The beginning is painfully slow and I found myself struggling to get into this book. I found both characters, Zoe and Hailey, to be extremely unlikeable and lacking any characteristics that might make me care about them even a bit. But then the shit hits the fan in the worse way possible and I still had a hard time trying to like these two. Up until the very end I found myself trying to understand if anything that happens is real, everything a mix of alcohol and drugs.
I still question everything, the main character narrating the events is extremely unreliable and her coping mechanisms are some of the most toxic methods I have ever read. This book is a walking trigger warning.
There is not much that can be said about this story without giving away the plot, but the book is quite fast once the characters settle in and the main events unfold. It took me two weeks to get through 113 pages and a then a day to finish this. It picks up and just throws you against the walls.
This is a characters based story, the events that unfold are honestly a blur, the characters remain. But did I care about Hailey? Not at all. What about Zoe? Not really, but I found myself pitying her towards the end. I guess that, in the end, pity is also an emotion a writer can pull out of their readers.
