Wow... I knew this book was going to have hard moments but man I was NOT prepared for it. As in full on sobbing towards the end. What an amazing book. The writing was excellent and the duel story makes both heartbreaking and the best way to read.

My teensiest tiniest complaint is that
Rimmer never wrapped up what happened to Alina's parents? I mean they most likely died but it's not 100 percent given...

I can't wait to read more of Rimmer's works.

WOW. Okay I don’t read a lot of historical fiction (especially WWII) because it can be very SAD you guys!! This book was no exception but it was Very Good. While I cared much more about Elena’s story and putting the puzzle pieces together than I did Alice’s family struggles I see how it was needed to balance out the story. Did I cry? Of course I did. How do you all read books like this all the time??

Really good historical fiction set in Poland during WWII with a second narrator who was a present day descendant in the US. Great characters, plot and pacing. In just a couple of spots I wanted more ‘showing’ and less ‘telling.’
