When reading this wonderful novel remember the following: JANE EYRE was not a fast-paced story; as a re-imagining, this will not be either. What I liked is how Faye tied in bits of Bronte flavor into her novel. There were bits where I chuckled to myself because I recognized tidbits of JANE EYRE in JANE STEELE.

All in all, there was no part of the story I disliked. I felt like it flowed well and possessed the trademark slow-burn that most Victorian novels epitomize. The language can be slightly flowery and sentences can appear long-winded; however, the prose is beautiful and the story incredibly enjoyable. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good Victorian novel and wishes to read a contemporary take on a classic style.

Love, love, love this book! I was turned off initially because I thought it would be necessary to have knowledge and fondness for Jane Eyre, since the book is described as a reimagining of the classic. Luckily, there's much here for the reader who is ignorant of Jane Eyre. I loved it all.

4.5 stars! Once the romance started about halfway through the book, I could NOT put it down. I want more stories like this one!

Enjoyed from start to finish.

This is a retelling/reinvented version of Jane Eyre, but the story of Jane Eyre is mentioned throughout the book by the narrator. In this version Jane Steele is a murderess and eventually moves in to her childhood home as a governess. There she finds secrets galore, but she might have also found the place she belongs.

This book is great. I finished it in two sittings, because I had to sleep. The characters are well flushed out and interesting. Even the Villians are multi-layered. Our anti-heroine is amazing. She is likable even when you are judging her at the same time. The history that went into the telling of this story is rich and vibrant. You can picture how terrible the wars were and how it affected the men who survived.

If I had one complaint about the story, it would be the glossing over of her transition from teenager to adult. It was rushed. There were a few characters that we briefly met and a murder, but all of it seemed like it got edited out except the bare bones. I wish they would have expanded on this and made the novel longer, or just cut it out completely. It was a wasted opportunity.

I would absolutely recommend this book to all my friends!

It is everything I adore in Historical Fiction. The narrator did a fantastic job and I cannot rave more about how much I enjoyed this audiobook or else I will rave forever.
