I feel like this book ripped me apart. The trauma and tragedy of the situation that the characters were in felt so heart-wrenching and brutal, and then remembering that they are all about SIXTEEN YEARS OLD? My heart hurts for them. But I couldn't imagine the book ending any other way than it did. I don't think that's something nearly anyone would be able to live with themselves after, if they couldn't find a way to bring them back. This book was violent and emotionally devastating, but genuinely so good and well-written. I can't begin to imagine what Book 3 will contain, and I'm terrified and ecstatic to read it.
Graphic: Child death, Death, Gun violence, Mental illness, Physical abuse, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide, Violence, Grief, Murder, Fire/Fire injury, and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Confinement and Panic attacks/disorders

I don't know why this book and Nemesis are in the same series. Genesis has an entirely different premise which I might've been interested in otherwise, but the plot shift was too jarring.
Speaking of jarring, one character's transformation between the last book and the start of this one felt completely out of the blue, and not for the better.
But on its own, the plot is incredibly interesting and the moral dilemmas in this book are gut-wrenching and heavy.

Lots and lots of murder, however:
