I went into this book expecting it to be quite comedic and humorous, and it absolutely did not disappoint in that respect. Most of the characters are very loveable, and I enjoyed the pop culture references and relevancy of the jokes. On the other hand, this book delves much deeper than expected into issues of slut shaming, feminism and women's rights and I also really appreciated that. It really demonstrates the extent to which rumours, gossip and judgement can hurt people on an emotional level (especially when it gets out of hand at the scale of the book's plot). The author also explores the issue of using comedy as a coping mechanism to deal with difficult situations, which is also an interesting topic all on its own.
The ending was kind of an expected trope of friendship betrayal, but nevertheless an important one since it demonstrates how women often face harassment in situations where they shouldn't have to worry about that (in this case, a male-female friendship situation which was supposed to be unconditional and yet her guy friend came on way too strong and lashed out when the feelings weren't reciprocated). At the same time, I like how the author left room for hope at the end by showcasing the power of female friendships and women supporting each other.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read and I would recommend this book to anyone who has a funny bone and also likes to think deeply about societal issues at large.

The books discusses important topics like bullying, death, mental health and the dangers of social media.

šŸ’«I enjoyed all the references like Harry Potter and Kim K, I thought it added personality to the story.
šŸ’«There were times when the book had me shook it do a double take.
šŸ’« Resonated with female lead..as often I am deemed as a strong, brave person because I stay incredibly strong even in dark times. I feel I can relate to her strong mentality.
šŸ“ˆ I lost interest sometimes, I wanted more from the book..sometimes it just seemed like rambling.

I think I get the message this book was trying to send, but it could have been carried out a lot better. I can tell from as much as Iā€™ve read what the author is trying to set up as a story;

1)Betty is set up as basically an older roommate whoā€™s in college

2)Alcohol as an excuse

3)Just sleeping with anyone

+A lot of the excuses Izzy has made so far are just written off as a mistake or her being ā€œstupidā€.
Itā€™s never really addressed!?!??

+She So does not deserve the friends she has!

4)I donā€™t like how Danny is already being set up and built as a character - thereā€™s a foreboding sense that he might even go so far as to betray her (understandably) for trampling all over his emotions towards her (of which she refused to address- or at least as so far as Iā€™ve gotten).

5) For a senior going through such strenuous circumstances she really has nerves of steel; unnaturally unnerved.
Her voice is not as mature as it should beā€¦
+Also, having searched for a job for several years I find it highly unlikely that somehow she just couldnā€™t even find one income stream

6)The only reason she feels guilty for having slept (no discussion about protection or ANY sort of precautions) with Vaughn is because of Danny. Thereā€™s a message sent that, that is okay when it isnā€™t!

7)SHE ACTS ON EVERY IMPULSE!!!
LIKE WHY!! WHY!!!

8)Where are the adults in this story!?!??
I donā€™t know if itā€™s because of Izzy perspective but everyone is immediately written off as good or bad and from then on.

9)Izzyā€™s humor is the type that comes at the cost of someone elseā€™s emotions; not my type of humor; debasing.

+you donā€™t need to pull someone down to bring yourself up.

+Emotional Damage or reactions due to them are not discussed - at most briefly mentioned.

Iā€™m just not okay with how the general message (ā€œthe feminist messageā€) was being sent out; I can sense itā€™ll be used a rug to sweep multiple mistakes underā€¦. Perhaps even at the cost of men?
