I've got to say I was sceptical at first, but the more I grew to read it the more I liked it. The growth of some of the characters, the writing and the clever narrative that Austen uses to combine problems with class, gender, manners and conduct were great for me.

This book was quite different to what I thought it would be. However, there is so much to unpack and I want to delve a little deeper. I have initially rated it as 3 and a half stars, but until I give it a re-read and analyse it in more depth, I probably won't feel as confident about where this book sits with me. In comparison to Austen's other novels, this isn't one of my favourites, but still good in places.

Whilst it is Austen's first published book, it is enriched with her eloquence, classic wit and humour. I think I went into this novel thinking it would be more romance, but I definitely looked at it from the wrong angle initially. Yes there is romance involved in this book, but it wasn't until near the end that I learned that the novel (as do her others to be fair) is also full of other familial and mutual relationships that are equally as important and that make the book what it is. It is also the first Austen book I had read where it wasn't clear which partner would end up with who, which made it all the more intriguing.

Overall, it was a a fairly compelling read and had a  good storyline, excellent writing style and lovable characters.

This book was very enjoyable! It took me a while to get into it, and to figure out who to care about and all that jazz. But once I did I sped through the rest of the book, and was pleasantly surprised by the twists and ending and all that. Nothing could compare to Pride and Prejudice of course, but I definitely liked this book
