Overall, it is a well-written and great read! It is pretty crazy. It has a lot of gore-ish imagery, mostly towards the end but the tone is so...funny. Like it's almost sarcastic-like, but the main character isn't sarcastic. She has just grown very accustomed to things!
It's a haunted house that gets super amped up each September, and a month before, her husband walks out and they have no idea where he is. It's spooky and super mysterious!
However, underneath it all, it's a story about a woman who is so used to changing herself and walking in circles for other people that she loses her voice, in a sense.
That said plot and character development does end up revealing there are themes of domestic abuse, by the way, but it also shows how we can so easily find ourselves...placid while it goes on.
Anyways I did really enjoy the read, but it is outside of some of what I normally read

INCREDIBLE. I could not put this down! It was so well done - the themes that this novel tackles paired with the gruesome and terrifying horror? *chef’s kiss* I will be recommending this to every horror lover I know. Definitely not for the squeamish!

I thought this was a really good book with a nice plot progression. However, I feel it would have made more sense to stick with the first conclusion. Nevertheless, I think it was mostly well done
This narrator didn’t give AF about her haunted ass house
A cozy "everyday horror" type of read that still has immensely horrific material in it. Carissa, you almost had me near the end I was going to throw a fit.

Loved this book! A slightly different take on haunted house theme. Great blend of horror and dark humor. I agree that the story line was a bit slow at times, but I still enjoyed finding out more about the characters and the house itself during these periods of the book. I might have even rated this higher if it was not for the daughter (Katherine). For much of the book, I just wanted to slap her upside her head. She seemed a bit over-the-top at times and less believable than the other characters (which is saying a lot for a book with a bunch of characters that are ghosts). I agree with other authors that there wasn’t really any shocking twists, but for me this did not take away from the whole story. If you read a lot of horror, there are some things you can guess at and probably get right. Overall, highly recommend this one.
