I genuinely enjoyed this. I felt in many ways like it was the book version of a campy 80s horror film. Think House (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ochALVreLR0) which if you have not seen and claim to be a fan of this genre, you absolutely should! I was ok with the cheesiness of the jokes and the general flat approach to characters, in fact I thought this only aided in the experiment of this format. Overall this is a really fun and somewhat endearing story that uses horror elements to walk us through one woman's journey to confront personal traumas through a haunting.
The story follows a couple who purchase their dream home only to find there is a terrible past still haunting it's walls and specifically it's basement. What I loved so much was the relationships our main character forms with ghosts in the house and how they come together in the end. I do not want to spoil anything in this book as it is an easy read and recommend you do so if you can stomach horror and a little gore, but overall it was a fun ride with enough charm to feel meaningful and convey a message (something horror for horror sake can not always do well).

this was a good exploration of alcoholism and domestic violence with a fun backdrop of paranormal horror. really quite beautiful.

This book really hooked me! When I read the intro, I wasn’t totally sure if I’d like it as “horror” is not a genre I tend to enjoy. But it really grabbed me quickly and kept me guessing and hoping for a solid resolution. I enjoyed it.
