would it be insane of me to say i wish one of them would’ve died in the end? probably.

though i liked the story in general, especially how the relationship between archer and hadley developed, i found the setting and antagonists to be a litte flat. i wish we would’ve seen more of taylor (also, that‘s like the most basic name you could give the mc‘s best friend. seriously.) and gotten to know her more, as she was mentioned only a few times. considering she was hadley’s best friend, i would’ve expected her to play a bigger role, even though hadley was very caught up in the whole archer business.
several of the characters felt flat and cliché and…well, exactly what you would expect from a wattpad story, which makes sense because this literally is one. i could see elements of that sometimes in the writing as well. still, i feel like other parts of the story partly made up for that.
overall i enjoyed it, despite its clichés.

I originally read this book on Wattpad years ago and wanted to revisit and see how the published version differed. Usually the published version is a lot better but unfortunately I don’t think that’s the case with this one. While there were some changes I really liked, such as the portrayal of Death being a lot more other and a lot less human, and also the change from Archer having 3 triplet sisters to just the one, I found that a lot of the depth was to the story and the characters didn’t make the Final Cut. I feel like I didn’t fall in love with the characters this time around. I found archer’s character to fall short of the original. He was less of an asshole which I appreciate, but that was part of his charm initially and taking that away left little behind. I also found Hadley to be a lot more plain and boring. She seems to have no interests or hobbies which annoys me. I wanted to enjoy this so badly but I just wish I re-read the Wattpad version instead. If you’re going to read this, I really recommend reading the original. Plus Wattpad is free so it’s a win-win.

I originally read this back when it was just a self-published story on wattpad and I’m so happy that it’s now “officially published” so that I can own it in book form.
It’s one of those stories that I can’t resist revisiting and I’ve reread it multiple times over the years.
I think that the paranormal elements are just enough in this otherwise quite ordinary story and you really want to root for our main characters and their future!
