A fun read! It’s a bit sexist and very much from the male gaze, but still fun!

This one was really something I needed because I'd been doing so much heavy, dire, emotional reading lately. I needed something with fairly low stakes, something familiar and comfortable, and Shakespeare for Squirrels is doubly so if you are familiar with A Midsummer Night's Dream and Chris Moore himself.
Moore is funny, witty, gentle, lighthearted, and unbelievably horny in his writing. I have read nearly all his books, this one a rare exception, and I'm very glad I picked it up. It's just earnest, fun pulp, and that's what I come to these for.
I must say if you are going to get this book and you enjoy audiobooks, this may be one of the finest audiobook performances I've ever read. This dude has a GREAT accent and a fantastic voice for literally everyone (and can even do characters who are pretending to be other characters quite well, it's truly groundbreaking).

It’s not high literature but a fun frolic and a helpful dose of swear-therapy.

I have read Fool but not the second in the series, although this had little impact on my reading of Shakesoeare for Squirrels. It probably ruined the book I missed but SfS didn't require it.
I remember liking Fool so I was quite pleased to see Pocket back and while I did enjoy the bawdy, sexy humour of SfS I felt that the pacing slackened around the halfway point and I found my mind drifting.
Once I got into the plot and writing style I found it fairly straight forward but there were definitely instances where I was in a tangle. Some of the characters were similarly named and I lost track. I found it easier to digest the events and ignore the characters and then set it all straight at a later point. There were lots of women with names beginning with H which caused a lot of my issues.
I also found the ending a bit, not lazy, but easy. Having Rumour arrive and give pages long monologue about how everything fit together was a bit flat. It would have been more interesting to see the layers reveal themselves through the play (the play being another part which confused me with regard to characters names/roles).
Overall I enjoyed the telling and it made me laugh but perhaps needed a bit more clarity and something meatier in the middle.

Humor is too raunchy for my taste, although it is very funny. I'm probably not in the right mood for it
