Part Tom Stoppard, part Monty Python; a little of this goes a long way.
I laughed out loud several times at the audiobook (well done, Euan Morton) but the book veered wildly from the supposed murder mystery path; by the time we get to the "play-within-a-play" I had lost interest.

I started this 3 times because I was really trying to follow what was going on and struggled. Then I just forced my way through. I still am not completely sure what just happened. I think if I wasn't trying to figure things out it would have been funnier. I picked up as a creative take on a mystery but might have enjoyed it more if I saw it from the beginning as a foolish bit of fluff.
A little confusing but a fun ride 3.5
The plot reveal at the end was hard to keep up with. Everyone's motivations and alliances were confusing. Can someone explain? I feel like I missed something. I really liked a large part of this book it only was confusing when Rumor gave the exposition dump at the end. I might have to read it again.

A rehash of an existing story needs to not follow the original ploddingly. This sort of does, despite the main protagonist being the author's own creation. Lost interest, really.

Listen, any book that opens with "We'd been adrift for eight days when the ninny tried to eat the monkey." is off to a promising start.
I really enjoyed Lamb when I read it a few years ago and was happy to jump back into Moore's head with this one. The bathroom humor (and oh, god, is there bathroom humor) is offset by the cleverness and wit of both Moore and his protagonist. I wouldn't recommend it everyone willy nilly, but if you're a fan of satire, comedy (particularly blue comedy), and Shakespeare, I'd recommend picking it up. I had a decidedly good time!

Even though I'm not a big fan of Shakespeare, I did enjoy come of the humor in this.
