“Without you on this journey I would have fallen apart. You’re my brother, Cassius.”
“What’s next then, when this journey ends?”

just like volga did to her grandfather and 13 other people, this book fucking ripped my heart out.

although this book is slow, it’s so well written and all of the character development is so good. at first, my biggest complaint was that there wasn’t enough of virginia’s pov. and while that is something i take issue with, my number one complaint would probably have to be fucking KILLING OFF CASSIUS. i’m so distraught. i love him so much. he was such an incredibly well written character. his friendships with darrow and lyria were so wholesome. even with sevro there was a sort of understanding and kinship between them. he was so good. he didn’t deserve that. lysander will die in the next book. because i said so. he will! he has to. there’s literally no way he wont! it’s insane to think that little bitch almost had me feeling bad for him. pierce brown is a master manipulator. i still don’t know if that anxiety attack when he reunited with cassius was real or not. because yes, he was being used as a puppet! that’s all anyone saw him as! and at the end of the day, he’s a 19 year old with a conqueror’s blood and he’s a product of his environment. i almost felt bad for him! until he fucking KILLED CASSIUS WHEN HE DIDNT NEED TO. my blood is boiling.

moving on from that because if i think about it for too long ill start crying… there’s so many loose ends that need to be tied up with the last book. where is rhonna? what’s going on with the abomination? and atalantia? appollonius? how is pax doing? how is MARS doing?? going into this i really thought some stuff might get cleared up but nope! as soon as you think one thing, the plot veers off to something completely different. i certainly didn’t think this book would pretty much take place entirely in the rim dominion, but i enjoyed it. i love diomedes and aurae. they’re such interesting characters and i hope we see more of them as individuals and as a couple in red god.

also, i don’t think quicksilvers story is done. kinda pissed off that’s where it went in the first place??? i understand he wants to just live in peace with his husband on their weird asteroid spaceship planet thing?? but he confounded the sons of ares and he’s the richest mf in the entire solar system, i think he has an obligation to help finish this war. and i think he will. and i think it’ll have something to do with that virus lysander has now, thanks to atlas. and fuck atlas i’m so glad he’s dead.

overall my thoughts are: more virginia, kill lysander, and justice for cassius my beloved.

A masterclass in providing real stakes in a book that otherwise might have been 600 pages of treading water before the final book of the series

I am far too emotional to write a real review. Pierce Brown, you insane genius. Your work never fails to exceed my expectations. I may never recover from this one.

I was not prepared for this book. Light Bringer is thick, but didn’t feel that way. Unlike Dark Age, I felt like no parts of this dragged on for me. I was always very invested and I didn’t want to put this down. I have definitely felt moments of sorrow during this series, but the sixth installment definitely took the cake. I was left devastated and had to take some time this afternoon to collect myself. Light Bringer included so many call backs to earlier parts of the series and so many tender moments. This is definitely my favorite of the series. The only part I didn’t like is that I have to wait for the next one. 😭😭😭
