if you were ever thinking 🤔 " you know what Animal Farm needs? A telepathic pig that can possess people!" or after reading Charlotte's Web you were like "you know I really wish the pig went postal and slaughtered everything in sight" MAN HAVE I GOT THE BOOK FOR YOU!
that's right. this book is about a pig that enacts revenge on a farm town by using this telepathic powers to possess people and make them do things like, murder.
in the beginning I was like - there is no way this is a real concept written by an actual person that got published. but MAN was it a good time. I would not recommend this to just anyone mind you, this was fucking weird and after the first chapter or 2 it will lose a lot of people and those that hang on by a thread will throw the book across the room for sure once you reach the halfway point. but what saved this book was the fact the author did not take this seriously - it was equal parts disturbing, shocking, and hilarious. I kept reading strictly to know what happens next and for the ✨vibes✨🐷
this was as if David Lynch and Rob Zombie partnered on a film but produced by A24. a bloody, fucked up fever dream. if that appeals to you, pick this bad boy up and let me know what you think. and also, explain the fucking ending to me, thanks.

This book was so promising! I loved the idea of a killer pig (some of y'all did not) but I just got really bored.

Type of read: Commuter Read
What made me pick it up: Showed up on one of my suggested reads lists.
Overall rating: No. Just no. This book is comically awkward. I truly don't know why I finished it. The whole story is about a telepathic, psychotic pig that wreaks havoc on a small farming community. I know that it's a supernatural, psychological thriller but that doesn't excuse the fact that it's just a jumbled mishmash of various characters streams of consciousness with a ridiculous storyline, peppered with made up slang that will never catch on (if I hear "pukin'" one more time, I will throw my phone with the audiobook across the room).
Pearl goes on my 2021 list as the weirdest, worst book I've read (fully completed) all year.

This book was just okay in my opinion. It had a slow start and I just couldn't really get into the story the way I wanted to. I had heard such great things about it but it just didn't live up to my expectations.

This book was pukin'...and not in a good way. I was so annoyed by the end of the author's overuse of: ass, pukin', and Rio de Janeiro. I also couldn't get over the fact that by the end, Jeff was still falling for Pearl's deceptions. He knew it was a deception and still fell for it! . This was just weird. I wasn't scared and I just really wanted to see how it ended.
Graphic: Violence
