Really wanted this to be as good as slewfoot, really didn't hit for me. Good story beginning and end were great, middle was murky.
I see all the other reviews with three stars are saying it was too violent or "foul-mouthed" for a book about children but that was a pleasant surprise for me. I just don't think books about kids are for me. Although I did enjoy the creepy little witch triplets.

Basically a book about men and boys ruining the world so that seemed accurate. In the end I was glad it was over, so three stars :)

A really enjoyable read. Just when you think you get a character, something happens to put them in a different light.

Three and a half stars. I usually love retellings of classic fairytales, and this one was good, but I have to admit it didn’t live up to what I expected. The narrative style and structure didn’t match with the mythology or the plot so it fell flat to me in places that should’ve been significant. But the art was really good, and I liked how dark it was, because all of the original classic fairytales are dark and twisted and this really pays homage to that. There are no happy endings in this book. I just wish the writing style was a bit fancier; it felt too plain for such a magical book. There were parts of this book that frustrated me so much - namely Leroy’s character and everything he gets away with made me want to scream - but for the most part it was decent. Nothing I can say I really loved about it except for a couple of characters (Sekeu mostly). That being said I still want to read Lost Gods, Brom’s retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice.

I listened to this on audible, narrated by Kirby Hayborne, who was brilliant!

I knew, going into this book, it'd be very different to the usual Peter Pan story I know and love. Peter Pan is one of my favourite fairy tale stories, and I grew up with this:

And this:

As some of my favourite films.

This story by Brom was more closely related to the original, darker book, that I have also read. It was still very much Brom's own story, very different but still an obvious retelling. In the beginning it was brilliant. Very dark and very creepy, especially Peter. I really loved how he picked up the lost children from bad situations, only to see it's not much better in their new lives.
I did get a bit bored during the second half. The book took a strange turn when The Lady was introduced, and I just wasn't feeling it as much. I still found it enjoyable, but it wasn't as dark as I had expected, and Peter wasn't the same creepy child as in the beginning. There was some things I expected to happen that didn't
Spoiler Like Nick turning into a flesh eater... I know he was healed but I wanted him to go a bit darker before that

The battle at the end was good and I did find a certain moment shocking and sad
Spoiler Nick's death :'(
. I loved Peter's change at the end, and the choice he made. The bond between him and The Lady was one of my least favourite parts so this was good to see.
I definitely enjoyed this book, and I would love to read more by Brom in the future. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes Peter Pan or dark fairytale retellings like I do.

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed the beginning and the unique backstory Peter was given, but started to lose interest at the halfway mark. The second half of the book was a lot of graphic, gory battle scenes which is not my bag, and not what I was expecting.

The book ticked all the boxes for me but something was missing. The character of Peter was intriguing but the novel didn't captivate me. I loved the notes from the author at the end though and would love to read more about British mythology/folklore. Any recommendations?

I've no needs of banners, titles, crowns, magic swords or gilded courts. I'll never be confined to any realm. My domain is wherever the wind blows.

I loved this so much more than I thought I would. This is probably one of the best retellings ever, I am never going to look at peter pan and not think about this story.

It was so lush and imaginative, sinister and sadistic. It didn't shy away from going to dark places, and oh the morally grey characters. I know I am going to remember this story for a long long time.
